Harbor Gaze
Started this painting while working on the birdhouse piece. I came across these stunning photographs online and was lucky enough to get permission from @carolsscheid to use them as a reference. I reimagined a quiet moment between a woman, her dog, and the sea, blending elements into a new, personal composition.
I love how the composition naturally divides into three sections, drawing the eye to the harbor in the center. The figure stands at the edge, seemingly caught between looking out at the water or back toward the viewer. Meanwhile, her companion, the dog, stares directly at us, almost as if inviting us into the scene.
I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed painting it! Let me know what you think.

Harbor Gaze (2025) Original
Oil on Canvas | 18 x 24 in
Painted alongside Bird House, Antelope Island, this piece was inspired by a series of stunning photographs by @carolsscheid, whose permission made this work possible. Reimagined through my own lens, the scene captures a quiet moment shared between a woman, her dog, and the sea.
The composition naturally unfolds into three distinct sections, gently guiding the eye toward the harbor at the center. The woman stands at the edge—caught in contemplation—while her loyal companion meets our gaze directly, as if inviting us into their tranquil world.
Why collectors should own this piece:
Harbor Gaze is a quiet yet powerful reflection on solitude, loyalty, and choice. With its gentle atmosphere and emotionally layered composition, this painting draws viewers into a narrative moment that lingers. The gaze of the dog—direct and unflinching—adds a rare point of connection that makes the piece deeply personal. Exhibited in two regional shows, Harbor Gaze carries curatorial recognition and represents a key work in Orozco’s evolving practice, making it an excellent acquisition for collectors of contemporary figurative and narrative art.
